Following the Miss NAIDOC Perth event held in May, Samara Magazine is pleased to announce that the spotlight was still on Indigenous women at this year’s NAIDOC Perth Awards. Noongar woman Anne Garlett took out the 2012 NAIDOC Perth Outstanding Achiever award, presented during the 15 June ceremony held at Government House.
First it was: “Are you on Facebook?” then it was: “Are you on Twitter?” Now “Are you on Pinterest?” is the question du jour, with over 13.6 million users at last count, according to application traffic monitoring service AppData (AppData 2012, Pinterest Application Report, accessed 13 June 2012.)
Australia’s Governor-General, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, today announced The Queen’s Birthday 2012 Honours List. Each year – on Australia Day and the Queen’s Birthday – up to 800 honours are awarded, as well as more than 100 Bravery Awards. Among this year’s worthy recipients are many passionate women who have dedicated their time and expertise to “make a significant difference to their communities”.
Tonight, Miss NAIDOC Perth 2012 will be crowned at a glittering ceremony held at the Parmelia Hilton. A leadership and empowerment program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women aged 18 to 30, this year, 11 deserving entrants will compete for the crown.

Tuesday marked the announcement of nominees for Ernst & Young’s 2012 Australian Entrepreneur of the Year awards. A year-long program that recognises the efforts and successes of Australian business and social leaders, the awards are held annually as part of Ernst & Young’s global World Entrepreneur of the Year initiative.
